Afghanistan’s Islamabad Embassy Urges Pakistan to Reopen Torkham Crossing

ISLAMABAD: Sardar Ahmed Shakib, the acting Afghan ambassador in Islamabad has urged Pakistan’s government to reopen the Torkham border as soon as possible.

The Afghan ambassador said in a meeting with Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Asif Durrani, that closing the Torkham border is damaging to both countries. He said that travellers and traders stranded in Torkham are in an awful situation.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan affairs stated that the closure of the Torkham crossing will have an impact on the people of both countries. Asif Durrani continued on to say that he has ordered Pakistan’s key institution to reopen the Torkham crossing as soon as feasible.

The Torkham crossing was closed on Wednesday due to a confrontation between the two countries’ border forces.
