KABUL: Afghanistan’s scheduled home white-ball series against Sri Lanka has been postponed due to logistical challenges, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Wednesday.

The bilateral series, consisting of three T20 Internationals and three One-day Internationals, was originally set to take place in the United Arab Emirates from March 13 to 25. However, the ACB said ongoing instability in West Asia has created travel and operational difficulties, forcing the board to delay the tour until the final quarter of 2026.

In a statement, the ACB said the decision was taken after flight disruptions and other logistical constraints made it difficult to proceed with the series as planned.

According to the original itinerary, the three T20I matches were scheduled to be played in Sharjah on March 13, 15 and 17, while the ODI matches were to be held in Dubai on March 20, 22 and 25.

Follow-up discussions

The cricket board said it had held consultations with several stakeholders, including the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Cricket Stadium, to explore ways of continuing with the series.

A joint meeting held on March 4 initially recommended monitoring the situation and reassessing the feasibility of hosting the matches. Follow-up discussions were held on March 7 and March 9, but officials concluded that the logistical issues remained beyond their control.

As a result, the series has been postponed while efforts are underway to determine new dates.

The ACB emphasised that the United Arab Emirates remains the preferred venue for the rescheduled series. Revised dates will be finalised in consultation with Sri Lanka Cricket and other relevant stakeholders.

The series was expected to mark Afghanistan’s first assignment under new white-ball captain Ibrahim Zadran, who recently replaced all-rounder Rashid Khan following the team’s early exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
