KABUL: At least 25 passengers were killed and 27 others injured when a bus overturned near Kabul late on Tuesday, officials said.
According to Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, the accident occurred late Tuesday near the Arghandi intersection in the capital. Speaking to Tolo News, he stated that the bus overturned due to the driver’s negligence.
Taliban chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid told Anadolu Agency that a total of 44 people were either killed or injured in the incident.
This tragedy follows a similar accident last week, when 79 people — including 19 children — lost their lives after a bus transporting repatriated migrants from Iran collided with a truck and motorcycle, then caught fire on the Herat-Islam Qala highway in Herat province.
Fatal road accidents are frequent in Afghanistan, largely due to poor road infrastructure and unsafe driving practices.
