KABUL: The deputy governor of Afghanistan’s northern Badakhshan province was killed by a car bomb on Tuesday (today), the provincial spokesperson said.
According to Arab News, “Nissar Ahmad Ahmadi, has been killed along with his driver while six people were injured,” said Mahzudeen Ahmadi, the head of the information office of Badakshan, the province in the far north of Afghanistan that shares a border with Tajikistan and China.
It wasn’t clear who was behind the bombing, which was the first known such a significant blast or attack on a Taliban official in Afghanistan in many weeks.
The Taliban administration has been carrying out raids against members of Daesh, which has claimed responsibility for many major attacks in urban centres.
The Daesh has targeted Taliban administration officials, including claiming the killing of the governor of northern Balkh province in an attack on his office in March.
