Afghanistan Appoints Dwayne Bravo as Bowling Consultant for ICC 20I World Cup

ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan picked former West Indian allrounder and the leading wicket-taker in Twenty20 cricket Dwayne Bravo as their bowling consultant for next month’s ICC T20I World Cup. This was disclosed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Tuesday adding that being an experienced cricketer Bravo would be an asset to the team.
According to the ACB, “West Indian World Cup winner Bravo has been appointed as bowling consultant and will join the team during the preparation camp ahead of the marquee event,”.
Meanwhile, most of the players from the Afghanistan team have reached the Caribbean for a 10-day preparatory camp where Dwayne Bravo will join them soon.
The 40-year-old Dwayne Bravo is currently the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket with 625 wickets in 573 games and is considered one of the pioneers of bowling in the shortest format.
Before the mega event, Afghanistan would play a warm-up game against Oman on May 29 followed by another one against Scotland on May 31.
In the ICC event, Afghanistan has been placed in Group C along with the co-hosts West Indies, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Uganda and will open the mega event against Uganda on June 5 in Guyana.
There are 20 teams in the ICC event in total, being divided into four groups of five teams with the top two in each progressing to the Super Eight stage. The ICC World Cup will be held in the United States and the West Indies from June 1 to 29.
