ISLAMABAD: Senator Abdul Qadir, Chairman Standing Committee on Petroleum and Resources, said Monday that a high-level Afghan delegation would come to Pakistan in the first week of May.

He said the Afghan delegation would discuss details regarding implementing the agreed issues with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

He said that Pakistan was very concerned about the growing terrorism in the country. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar also visited Afghanistan a few months ago to inform the Kabul administration about their concerns.

Abdul Qadir for cooperation

He stressed that Afghan leaders should cooperate with Pakistan for balanced bilateral ties and a peaceful solution to the problems in the region.

The minister said that Pakistan always played a positive role in the integrity and well-being of Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan is a peaceful nation and wanted prosperity in the region.

The minister added that Pakistan is committed to wiping out terrorists and terrorism to achieve development and prosperity.

The bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been strained most of the time, despite attempts at improvement. Leaders on both sides have frequently visited each other’s capitals and made claims about putting issues on the right track, but not to have a positive effect.

Analysts argue that leadership on both sides of the border should address the problems and hurdles to smooth relations with an open mind.

Experts say that time has come to take bold decisions and put bilateral ties on the right path. Over the last more than four decades, Afghanistan was not under the peaceful control of one authority. Now it is under one flag. The Afghan Taliban are now in a better position to take corrective steps. Similarly, Pakistan must have learned from the wars and conflicts in Afghanistan that power alone cannot solve the problem.

The past mistakes should not only be accepted but also regretted by both sides. Only then the two countries can move forward.
