ISLAMABAD: A senior Afghan military commander was among the terrorists killed in a recent operation by Pakistani security forces, according to security sources.
The operation, conducted on February 28 in the Ghulam Khan Kalay area, resulted in the elimination of 14 terrorists, including Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, also known as Mansoor, the son of Mirza Khan, an Afghan national who previously served as a commander at Afghanistan’s National Military Academy.
Afghanistan has become a safe haven for terrorists and is being used for terror activities in Pakistan, military sources said.
Reportedly Mujeeb-ur-Rehman hailed from Dandargaon, Chak District, Maidan Wardak province, and had served as a commander of the third battalion at Afghanistan’s National Military Academy.
On January 30, 2025, the son of the Afghan Deputy Governor of Badghis, Mullah Ghulam Mohammad, named Badaruddin alias Yusuf, was also killed in an operation by security forces in Kalachi, Dera Ismail Khan, along with three terrorists.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan during a weekly briefing on Friday voiced his grave concerns over the US military equipment left behind in Afghanistan, “which is reportedly being used by terrorist groups.”
“Terrorists are now using advanced US weapons abandoned in Afghanistan, with some even being smuggled into Pakistan,” Khan stated.
He said we have impressed upon the international community and Afghan authorities to address this issue.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan desired a friendly cooperative relationship with Afghanistan but the stumbling block in the way of progress has been sanctuaries enjoyed by terrorists in Afghanistan.
Additionally, he stressed the need for continued dialogue on Afghanistan’s support for terrorism and its continued instability.
Pakistan’s reservations have also been confirmed by a report submitted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team which has revealed a nexus between Kabul and the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with the forming providing logistical, operational and financial support to the latter.
