KABUL: Businesswomen in Afghanistan have raised concerns regarding the lack of a suitable market for their products, which has led to economic challenges.
The difficulties faced by businesswomen have spurred a call for support and opportunities within the country.
Yalda Shafaq, a businesswoman who has played a vital role in empowering women by providing work for nearly 300 of them in a sewing workshop in Kabul, emphasized the need for support from both the citizens of Afghanistan and the Islamic Emirate. She expressed her determination to overcome the challenges, even though the workshop has experienced a significant downturn in work over the past two months.
It’s been two months that the work has been completely ruined, and there is no work at all. We still did not accept failure, said Yalda Shafaq.
Friba Naseeri, another resilient businesswoman, highlighted the numerous challenges faced by women, particularly those who are the primary breadwinners for their families.
“=Women are faced with lots of challenges, especially the women who are breadwinners, said Friba Naseeri.
In the midst of these challenges, some women who are passionate about their work and are involved in training at the workshop are advocating for the government to support businesswomen by providing them with more opportunities.
For us, it will be a place to sell and be an exhibition because we display our handicrafts; it will be useful for us, said Lena, a teacher in the workshop.
“When the girls come to work here, they have to help us so that they have a job of their own,” added Mursal, a worker.
Additionally, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry has taken note of these concerns and has announced plans for an exhibition in the near future. They are actively working on initiatives to offer more facilities and support to businesswomen across the nation.
We have a plan for an exhibition, we are working on the same project, which of course is from the Women’s Chamber of Commerce, said Salma Yousufzai, CEO of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
