Advisory Issued Amid Surge in Dengue Cases in Pakistan

LAHORE: The Punjab Health Department reported, on Thursday, a significant increase in dengue virus cases, with 126 new infections recorded across province in the past 24 hours.

Rawalpindi had the highest number of cases, totaling 107, followed by Lahore with six, Gujranwala with three, and two cases each from Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Attock.

This recent spike brings the total number of dengue infections in Punjab to 528 for the past week, contributing to an overall total of 1,371 cases for 2024.

A spokesperson from the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department reassured the public that hospitals are adequately stocked with medicines and treatments to address the virus.

In response to the rising case numbers, the Health Department has issued an advisory urging citizen to keep their surroundings clean and dry to help prevent the spread of dengue. The public is encouraged to collaborate with health teams actively working to manage the outbreak.

A free helpline (1033) is available for those seeking treatment, information, or wishing to file complaints. Health officials highlighted the importance of vigilance and proactive measures in controlling the virus throughout the province.
