MIRPUR: Azad Jammu & Kashmir, including Mirpur, received the first winter snowfall at the upper reaches of the region.

The weather turned chilly instantly as many parts of Mirpur district, Kotli, Bhimbher, Muzaffarabad city, Rawalakot, Jhelum valley, and various other areas of the state were lashed with the inaugural downpours of the winter coupled with snowfall and mild thunderstorms.

On Monday, snowfall at specific parts of the mountainous Leepa and Neelam valleys forced the people to wear heavy clothing.

Mirpur woke up to the sound of rain and a mild windstorm during the early hours, and these weather conditions continued intermittently until this report in the afternoon.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted that this precipitation will persist, with ongoing rainfall in the plains and snowfall in the higher mountainous regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) over the next 24 hours. This change in weather is a relief after the entire area endured a prolonged dry spell for many months. —APP
