  • Focus on stabilising economies and securing critical imports, including energy
  • Support tailored for developing member countries severely affected by the conflict

MANILA, Philippines: The Asian Development Bank has announced a financial support package to help developing member countries mitigate the economic and financial impact of the ongoing Iran war.

The Middle East has witnessed escalating tensions in recent weeks, with military engagements between regional powers disrupting energy supplies, international trade, and economic stability.

The war has affected both local markets and global commodity prices, posing serious challenges for developing economies dependent on oil and other critical imports.

In a statement, ADB President Masato Kanda said the Bank will provide fast-disbursing budget support and trade and supply chain finance to secure the import of essential goods, including oil.

The Bank did not disclose the package details and size at this stage.

The support package has two main components. The first is the Countercyclical Support Facility, designed to help stabilise economies and protect vulnerable populations from the effects of shocks.

The second is the Trade and Supply Chain Finance Program, which aims to ensure the continuous flow of critical imports, particularly energy and essential goods.

It would also include temporary reactivation of oil import support.

The Asian Development Bank has initiated discussions with all severely affected developing member countries to identify immediate support measures tailored to each country’s needs.

The initiative underscores ADB’s commitment to providing timely assistance to member states facing economic stress due to geopolitical disruptions.

With the urgent package, the ADB aims to maintain financial stability and ensure continuity of supply during periods of heightened uncertainty.
