ISLAMABAD: Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the emergency flood aid project in additional financing worth 5 million dollars aimed at addressing poverty, reducing inequalities, and accelerating progress in gender equity.

The additional financing is aligned with the ADB Strategy 2030.

It will also assist in tackling climate change, building climate and disaster resilience, and enhancing environmental sustainability while ensuring food security and promoting rural development are also included in its objectives.

Aid package

The package will support the urgent provision of climate-resilient seeds for staple crop cultivation and women-led livelihoods to fulfill basic household needs.

It will assist rural farm households in the 4 districts in Nasirabad Division that have canal-irrigated cropland. It will provide 60,000 out of a total of 188,000 households in the target districts with climate-resilient rice seed (2023 Kharif [summer] sowing crop).

The seeds will be sown in an area of 54,000 hectares out of a total of 139,000 hectares of rice cultivated area in the province.

Protective footwear will also be provided to plant rice in a safe way. The additional financing will also incorporate steps to strengthen community resilience to disasters caused by natural hazards.
