ISLAMABAD: Interim Afghan government in recent days have apprehended some key commanders of proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan (TTP), a step that would definitely foster a secure and peaceful environment in the region.
The Afghan caretaker government has apprehended three commanders and 16-foot soldiers affiliated with Malakand Division chapter of banned TTP, as reported by few media quarters. The arrests took place in bordering area of Kunar.
In a positive stride towards regional stability, the interim Afghan government has taken an encouraging action by apprehending 19 TTP militants. The step taken by Afghans will help fostering a secure and peaceful environment in the region.
The arrest of the TTP commanders by the Afghan caretaker government including Commander Ilyas (Ustad Ji) and associates is a significant development as Pakistan is pushing the Afghan caretaker setup for action against TTP responsible for recent terrorist activities.
Pakistan acknowledges Afghan government’s commitment to neutralize TTP
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has already acknowledged the interim Afghan government’s commitment to neutralize the TTP threat, providing assurance that concrete steps are being taken to address regional security concerns.
Earlier, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, during a weekly media briefing, expressed Pakistan’s growing concerns over the presence and activities of TTP terrorist groups on Afghan soil.
Without giving details, she said that discussions between Pakistan and Afghanistan caretaker government are ongoing on security issues especially the presence of banned TTP outfit on Afghan soil.
However, she confirmed that Afghan interim government had given certain assurances to neutralize the threat of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Early transfer of TTP detainees to Kunar Jail reflects Afghan Taliban’s commitment to due process and cooperation in investigations besides demonstrating their resolve to hold those supporting terrorism accountable.
