ISLAMABAD: Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker met with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday and discussed key issues of mutual interest, including regional security, counterterrorism efforts, and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Baker reaffirmed the significance of US-Pakistan ties, stating, “Pakistan is a valued partner of the United States. We attach great importance to our relationship and look forward to further strengthening our cooperation across multiple sectors.”

The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of both countries to advancing peace and stability in the region through sustained dialogue and collaborative efforts, Pakistan’s state-run news agency (APP) reported.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on a range of shared interests, including counterterrorism, anti-narcotics cooperation, and rising security concerns across the region. The discussion highlighted the need for enhanced strategic collaboration to address evolving transnational threats.

They also referred to the recent meeting between Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and US President Donald Trump. Both officials regarded the engagement as a positive step toward strengthening strategic relations between Islamabad and Washington.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised President Trump’s leadership in facilitating a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, describing his role as “extraordinary and sincere.”

“President Trump’s impressive role in brokering peace between Iran and Israel, following his earlier contributions to the Pakistan-India ceasefire, will always be remembered,” Minister Naqvi remarked.

“We hope President Trump will also succeed in bringing about a ceasefire in Gaza,” he added.

“Pakistan highly values every step taken for the promotion of peace. We have always believed in resolving disputes, including the Kashmir issue, through dialogue and diplomacy.”

Acting Ambassador Natalie Baker lauded Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at stabilising the region. She acknowledged Islamabad’s constructive role in promoting peace and emphasized that the United States regards Pakistan as a key partner in South Asia.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday and discussed bilateral and regional issues.

During their warm and cordial conversation, the prime minister appreciated President Trump’s bold and decisive leadership that led to the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, Pakistan’s state-run news agency (APP) reported.
