JEDDAH: The seventh Annual Coordination Meeting of the OIC Institutions (ACMOI) started on Wednesday at the OIC Headquarters, Jeddah, bringing together delegates from OIC Institutions.
Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo opened the session underlining the dual focus of the meeting: reflecting on what was accomplished last year and charting the way forward for ACMOI’s activities in 2024.
Dr. Sengendo said that 2023 was a tragic year for many OIC member countries. It witnessed devastating natural disasters in Morocco, Türkiye, and Libya and the ongoing horrible Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, among others.
He explained that the burden of such developments constitutes an additional difficult challenge to the socio-economic development of the OIC nations.
He asserted that such situations also require the OIC and its institutions to increase their activities and programs that are aimed at helping the OIC member countries achieve sustained economic growth and development further.
On the other hand, Dr. Sengendo highlighted 2023’s positive developments, including the launch of the OIC Labour Centre in Baku, the newest specialized institution of the OIC dealing with labor and employment matters in the member nations.
