ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court (AC) on Friday ordered the authorities to return the confiscated assets and property of chief of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana case.

Judge Muhammad Bashir, while hearing the case, gave the directives.  Authorities had earlier confiscated 1,650 kanals land in Lahore, bank accounts, property and luxury vehicles owned be former prime minister.

The court also cancelled the orders of confiscation of the ex-prime minister’s belonging.

The judge during the hearing observed that non-bailable arrest warrants against Nawaz Sharif were issued by the court instead of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman.

The court had already withdrawn arrest warrants against Nawaz Sharif when the former prime minister surrendered before it.

The accountability court had declared Nawaz Sharif as absconder in October 2020 due to his continuous non-appearance in the Toshakhana case and also ordered to confiscate his property.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari and ex-prime minister Sayed Yousaf Raza Gilani were also named in Toshakhana reference filed by NAB.

Nawaz Sharif arrived in Pakistan on October 21 after ending his self-exile of four years. He was accorded a warm welcome by the PML-N while he also addressed a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan Lahore.

Earlier this month Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo directed the party leaders to start their preparations for the upcoming general elections scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024.

Nawaz Sharif speaking to the party leaders said that they will start the journey to development from where it was left off. The meeting was the first of the PML-N supremo at the central secretariat after his return to Pakistan.
