ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Swat and its surrounding areas, the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said.

The quake’s depth was recorded at 166 kilometers. Its epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush Mountain range, according to ARY News.

Moreover, Tremors were experienced in many areas including Swat, Mingora, Lower Dir, Chitral, and adjoining regions. These tremors led to a brief panic among residents.

However, no immediate reports of damage or casualties were received in the aftermath of the recent quake.

Moreover, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake, in September, was felt in parts of Pakistan, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

NSMC’s confirmation

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) confirmed that tremors were felt in Islamabad and different parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The quake that was recorded at 1229pm PKT was of 5.7 Magnitude with a depth of 10km while its Epicenter was close to DG Khan, says PMD in a statement.

It hit twin cities and different cities of Punjab and KP including Lahore, Sargodha, Chiniot, Okara, Jaranwala, Shorkot, Multan, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Sahiwal, Farooqabad, and Peshawar.

In addition to that, Tremors were also felt in Malakand, Lakki Marwat, Chitral, Mianwali, Kasur, Hafizabad, and other cities of Punjab and KP.

Seeing the tremors, people came out of their houses in fear by reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba.

Quake jolts Kalat

Moreover, a 4.1 magnitude quake jolted Kalat along with surrounding areas on Monday. It caused the people to empty their homes and look for shelter in the open, according to Dawn.
According to the Meteorological Department, the tremor struck at a depth of 10 kilometres and its epicenter was 59km from Kalat town. However, Officials stated there were no reports of casualty or damage to property from any place in Kalat district.
It was the sixth earthquake over the last month to have hit Balochistan. The past quakes had struck Chaman, Sibi, and Kalat districts.
