VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis expressed his grief over the recent incidents involving a large number of migrants drowning in the sea.
Pope termed it as an ‘open wound’ for the humanity.
The week ahead has many migrants drowning in the sea running away from repressive regimes and bleak future.
The 86 year old offered prayers for Lampedusa shipwreck victims where 41 are missing with only four survivors making it to safety.
He regretted the report from United Nation that it is with great pain and shame that over 2000 migrants drowned in the Mediterranean since the beginning of the year.
Saint Peter Square with number of Pope’s devotees heard the sermon where he urged people namely politicians and diplomats to heal the wounds of the people displaying solidarity with the victims.
He lauded the services from the rescue staff who go extra miles in saving lives and deserve all praise. Pope Francis on number of occasions has asked better treatment for people who risk their lives for better future leaving their homes.
