Pakistan Politics: Balochistan Assembly to be Dissolved Today
The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo, is expected to submit the summary for dissolution of the assembly to the Governor today. The Governor will then sign the summary on the advice of the Chief Minister of the province. As per media reports, the talks are underway to finalize the name of the interim Chief Minister but no name has been finalized yet for the slot.
According to sources, an initial discussion between JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and BNP-M chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal took place in Islamabad on Friday over the matter.
As per the sources, both JUI-F and BNP-M have put forward two names each for the post of caretaker Chief Minister. The opposition parties have expressed their commitment to reaching a consensus regarding the choice of caretaker Chief Minister in the province.
Similarly, earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, hinted that the decision concerning the appointment of the caretaker prime minister could be reached by Saturday. In the event that a consensus cannot be reached on a single candidate, Sharif clarified that the matter would be referred to a parliamentary committee, empowered to arrive at a decision within three days. If the committee fails to reach an agreement, the Election Commission will take the responsibility and arrive at a final verdict within two days. In response to President Arif Alvi’s letter urging a decision by August 12, the premier underscored that the constitutional procedure was unambiguous on this matter.
