BEIJING: To achieve sustainable development for a shared future in the new era, Chinese President Xi Jinping has stated that China will collaborate with Pakistan to develop the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into a flagship project of the Belt and Road (BRI) Initiative.

These remarks were given by Xi in a message of congratulations at the celebration for the Decade of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor that took place in Islamabad, Pakistan.

CPEC is a significant Belt, and Road Cooperation pioneering project, Xi noted. China and Pakistan have been pursuing CPEC since its debut in 2013 based on comprehensive consultation, collaborative contribution, and shared benefits, and have achieved many early harvests as a result.

He added that it is a striking example of the all-weather friendship between China and Pakistan. It is a solid foundation for forging a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era. He said this had given Pakistan’s economic and social development new impetus and laid the groundwork for regional connectivity and integration.

Xi emphasized that no matter how the world environment changes, China will always stand solidly with Pakistan and that the two countries will continue to enhance overall planning and extend and deepen cooperation.

He continued, “China and Pakistan will continue to work together and advance in unity to carry forward the unwavering friendship, coordinate development and security, pursue the cooperation of higher standards, broader scope, and greater depth, and take the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership to new heights, to make an even greater contribution to peace and prosperity in the two countries as well as the larger region.” —APP
