Saudi Arabia Urges OIC to Take Practical Steps to Confront Qur’an Desecration Incidents

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called on Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries to unite efforts in order to take practical and effective measures to confront the repeated incidents of the desecration of Holy Qur’an.

Addressing at an extraordinary meeting of the group to on repeated incidents of Holy Qur’an desecration in Sweden and Denmark, Prince Faisal said the organization was responsible for defending peace and the values of tolerance, spreading and protecting the true teachings of Islam, and combating  the intolerance and extremism, Arab News reported.

OIC efforts

He underlined the fact that efforts of OIC countries in this regard resulted in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopting a resolution on 12 July in which it condemned and completely rejected any advocacy and manifestation of religious hatred, including public and pre-meditated actions of desecration of the Holy Qur’an.

He said that freedom of expression should be a moral value that increases respect and coexistence among people of different countries and not a mean to spread hatred and cause clashes between cultures.

The foreign minister also underlined the need to spread values of moderation and tolerance and reject all forms of practices that createhatred, extremism, and violence.
