PUNJAB: The Single National Curriculum (SNC) Phase II will be implemented in Punjab starting with the coming academic year, according to a decision made by the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Affairs of the province during meeting presided by Muhammad Basharat Raja, Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs.
The Minister for Law, Khurram Shehzad Virk, and Minister for Communications and Works, Ali Afzal Shahi, also took part in the meeting.
According to information provided to the Committee, a uniform curriculum for class 1 to 6 in the province was previously introduced during the first phase. In the second phase, it will be implemented from class six to eight each of Urdu, English, mathematics, geography, general science, and computer science.
Chairman Basharat Raja cited a provision of the 18th Amendment during the meeting to claim that the change will allow all pupils to pursue the same uniform curriculum without hindrance.
Last month the Punjab School Education Department (SED) started cutting the province’s curriculum from class one to matriculation by 20%.
According to reports, School Education Department (SED) will decide this in the end after consulting with all relevant Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) and would issue an official declaration in due course.
The provincial government’s move was applauded by the children and their parents, who remarked that the students would have been overloaded otherwise.
