ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary Education, Zeb Jaffar on Friday informed that teacher’s training and awareness campaigns regarding the new ‘Dyslexia Special Measures Act 2022’ have been started nationwide.
Addressing a press conference in his office, he briefed about the new Act to deal with the children suffering from dyslexia, which had been passed by both houses- of parliament. It is pertinent to mention here that dyslexia is a reading disability due to difficulty in identifying speech sounds. There is no awareness about this disorder in Pakistan.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that there is a dire need for awareness creation as children with dyslexia bear mental torture in classrooms as they face difficulty in reading words. In some extreme cases they are thrown out of the schools, especially from poor sections of society.
“Under the umbrella of this new Act, we have started teacher’s training and awareness raising programs. With early interventions, dyslexia can be controlled and these children can lead normal lives. Teaching methodologies will be completely different. Children, who were thrown out of the school due to this disorder, will be brought back to schools,” he noted.
He briefed that all the ongoing projects in the Ministry of Education will be connected to this. This program has been started in Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa initially.
