ISLAMABAD: The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan on Monday announced that 170 Pakistani students had been awarded the prestigious ‘Fulbright Scholarship’ to study and conduct advanced research at universities in the United States.

The flagship academic exchange program of the US government, the Fulbright Program, enabled students worldwide to attend universities in America.

The 2023 cohort gathered for a 2-day pre-departure orientation to prepare for their new educational journey and learn about the US culture, life on campus, and opportunities for exchange students in the country.

William Ostick, US Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, congratulated the students on getting scholarships and advised them to fully connect with fellow students and learn from the experiences of each other.

He said that in the US, the students would be cultural ambassadors, strengthening relations between the people of Pakistan and the US. They would connect with Americans who want to learn more about Pakistan. And when they return, the students can help explain the United States, its people, values, and character of its communities.

Various Universities’ Students to Avail Scholarships

This year’s 170 participants belong to forty-four public and private universities. Among these are 129 Masters and forty-one PhD students, and seven Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant fellows.

Women represent 61% of this year’s cohort. The recipients would start their educational journey this fall at eighty-one US universities in various disciplines, including energy management, engineering, and social sciences.

Operated in 160 nations, the Fulbright Program is administered by US embassies and binational commissions.
