BEIJING: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday that Moscow and Beijing offer the world a constructive alternative to Western global dominance.
In a video address to the 8th International Conference titled as “Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era” in Beijing, he said that by offering a constructive alternative to the West’s policy, Russia and China – not in word, but in deed – facilitate the bringing of conditions for the creation of a multipolar world order, respect for the interests of all nations and the cultural and civilizational identity of all populations.
He said that the current situation should be deemed as a turning point in global development. Our nations are facing very strong pressure from the US-led collective West. Financial and economic retrictions are one of the manifestations of its policy; extraordinary in size and scale, they are illegal as they were adopted in violation of the UN Security Council.
Lavrov further said that the Ukraine crisis, the Taiwan problem and human rights are only an excuse for Washington and its subordinate countries’ anti-Russian and anti-Chinese actions.
Western elites view Russia, China as hurdles
He added that it was no secret that the ruling elites of the West view the sovereign policy of Russia and China as a hurdle to maintaining their global dominance based on political and military diktat along with economical, financial and technological monopoly.
