LAHORE: The Punjab police have decided to approach the Lahore High Court against a Lahore anti-terrorism court that ordered to release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Yasmin Rashid in a case related to vandalism and arson at the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence on May 9.

After the paramilitary Rangers arrested the PTI leader and former prime minister Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court premises last month in an alleged corruption case, countrywide protests erupted and various private and public facilities, including military installations, were vandalised.

Rashid and 17 other PTI women workers were detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance and she was re-arrested merely hours after the LHC ordered her release on May 13.

She was also accused in three cases registered at the Lahore relating to her alleged participation in the rioting on May 9. She was transported from Kot Lakhpat prison, but owing to her health, authorities opted to put her at Services Hospital in Lahore.

Rashid had been in police custody ever since an ATC granted police a three-day physical detention of her last week for a photogrammetric test related to the damage of Jinnah House.

A day earlier, a Lahore ATC had ordered Rashid’s release along with 23 other suspects and discharged her from the case. She was not released due to other cases of the May 9 protests.

In a statement issued, the Punjab police said: “All conspirators, planners, and perpetrators of the May 9 incident, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, would be brought to justice.”

It said that the probe into the Jinnah House attack case was being conducted on “scientific lines”.
