ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has acclaimed that two senior party members, Pervez Khattak and Asad Qaiser, have illegally been detained in a safe house after they went for negotiations with intelligence officials.

In a tweet, Imran Khan said: “Two of our senior members from the negotiations committee I had formed, Pervez Khattak and Asad Qaiser, were called for a meeting by the intelligence agencies. They have now been illegally detained in a safe house and are being forced to quit PTI for their release. In the law of the jungle, might is right, and the weak have no protection.”

The development comes a few hours after the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab and police arrested PTI Punjab President and former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi from his Zahoor Elahi Palace residence on Thursday evening.

TV footage showed ACE and police personnel whisking away the PTI leader from a raid at his residence.

Elahi, who had been evading raids for his arrests, was booked by the ACE Gujranwala, accusing him of taking Rs2 billion in a bribe for approving a development scheme.

Earlier, the Punjab police booked Elahi on terror charges following rioting and arson on May 9, targeting government and military installations after the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court premises.
