MOSCOW: US Senator Lindsey Graham has been added to a wanted list by Russia’s interior ministry, reported the Russian media on Monday, citing the ministry’s database.
The President’s office of Ukraine released an edited video of Graham’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday; Graham was seen as saying, “The Russians are dying, and support by the US was the “best finance we’ve ever spent.”
Following Russia’s criticism of the remarks, Ukraine released the entire meeting tape available, demonstrating that the two statements were unrelated.
Russian Investigative Committee said on Sunday that it was opening a criminal investigation into these comments made by Graham. It did not mention what crime he was suspected of.
On Sunday, Graham responded to criticism from Russia about his support for Ukraine by claiming that he had just applauded the Ukrainian people’s resolve in defying a Russian invasion with backing from Washington.
Graham, a Republican from South Carolina renowned for his robust foreign policy stances, has been a vocal supporter of more military aid for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. Numerous U.S. elected leaders and officials have previously been placed on Russian stop lists, preventing them from entering the country, although prominent American officeholders have rarely been targeted for arrest.
