RIYADH: A Saudi aid plane, the ninth of its kind, arrived at Port Sudan International Airport on Sunday, delivering 30 tons of food and medical supplies as part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian assistance to Sudan. The aid initiative aims to provide $100 million in support to the Sudanese people.
The arrival of the aid plane comes at a critical time as the Kingdom, along with the United States, has called on the warring factions in Sudan to extend a fragile cease-fire that is set to expire on Monday. The plea comes as weeks of fighting in the capital city and other parts of the country have reached a stalemate, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation.
Ceasefire Extension in Sudan
In a joint statement, Saudi Arabia and the US emphasized the importance of extending the ceasefire, acknowledging its imperfections but highlighting that an extension would facilitate the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.
The international community recognizes the vital role that ceasefires play in providing safe access for aid organizations to reach affected areas and deliver crucial supplies.
The Saudi aid planes have been a lifeline for Sudan, offering essential relief to the country’s population during this challenging time. The delivered food and medical supplies will help alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, who are grappling with the consequences of ongoing conflict and economic instability.
The humanitarian aid provided by Saudi Arabia demonstrates the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Sudan and its people in times of need. As Sudan faces numerous challenges, including political transition and economic recovery, international support and assistance are crucial for the nation’s stability and progress.
