ISLAMABAD: To remember and honour the martyrs who laid their lives in defence of the motherland and its citizens, the country is commemorating Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan (Martyrs Reverence Day) on Thursday.
The main event was organised at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, where Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir was the chief guest.
Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs during the ceremony, and prominent individuals laid flowers at the martyrs’ monuments.

Former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam, former chairman joint chiefs of staff committee Gen (retd) Nadeem Raza, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, and other members of the society attended the ceremony.
Apart from the main ceremony, several events featuring prayers and Quran recitation have been held nationwide. Moreover, many commemorative ceremonies will also be held at the martyrs’ memorials.
On Monday, COAS Asim Munir announced to observe May 25 as “Pakistan Martyrs’ Day” and deplored May 9 attacks on army installations, monuments, and the desecration of memorials to martyrs, describing them as intolerable.
While addressing an award ceremony at the GHQ, he said, “Every officer and soldier of the armed forces put his duty and responsibilities first regardless of regional, political, and linguistic prejudices and distinctions.”
