ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared on Saturday, the notices issued by National Accountability Bureau to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana reference case, illegal. A two-member bench of the IHC issued the decision stating that the notices had no legal status.

Court declares NAB notices to Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi illegal

Imran Khan and his wife had challenged the notices in the court, making the NAB head respondent in the matter.

Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi had also pleaded the IHC to declare the notices null and void. Bushra Bibi requested the court to stop the NAB from taking any action against her on the ground of these notices. The petitioner urged the IHC to stop the country’s accountability body from converting the case into an investigation.

The plea had been filed in the Islamabad High Court following Bushra Bibi failed to appear before the court to join the inquiry proceedings in the case.

A notice issued to PTI chief Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi and others in the Toskhana reference in February this year says: “The authority has taken cognizance of an offence allegedly committed by the accused persons as per the provisions of NAO, 1999. In this connection, the probe proceedings have revealed that during your tenure in office you retained some state gifts presented to you by several foreign dignitaries including five Rolex wristwatches; one iPhone presented by Chief of Staff, Qatar, a pair of cufflinks, one ring etc.”

“You are therefore asked to join the inquiry proceedings before the Combined Investigation Team, NAB (Rawalpindi/Islamabad), Civic Centre, G-6, Islamabad,” reads the NAB notice.
