LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday rejected former Punjab chief minister Pervez Elahi’s plea to stop police from arresting him and ordered the Punjab police chief to submit a comprehensive report on the late-night raid on his residence.

The order comes during the hearing of a petition filed by Elahi’s son, Rasikh, against the raid on his father’s home days after one was carried out in Lahore.

In the plea, the government of Punjab, through the chief secretary, the Lahore senior superintendent of police, the Punjab ACE director general and additional director general, and the Model Town superintendent, have been made respondents.

The development come hours after police conducted yet another raid on Kunjah House in Gujrat, according to Elahi’s other son Moonis Elahi.

“Punjab police again at Kunjah House in Gujrat to conduct another raid. I have told them to give them access although they still don’t have a search warrant,” he said in a tweet posted in the early hours of Tuesday.

When LHC’s Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar opened the hearing, Rasikh’s lawyer contended that raids were being conducted on the directives of the ACE and the Punjab police.

The lawyers pleaded with the court to stop he police from arresting Elahi and registering more cases against him till a detailed report was submitted. However, the court rejected the request.

Justice Dogar asked, “Under what law can the court stop an arrest? How can we accept what you say without detail a report on the matter?”

Rasikh’s lawyer told the court that another raid was conducted at their home in Gujrat last night. Then the court ordered a detailed report from the Punjab Police officials and directed the two to work within the ambit of the law.
