Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) head Maulana Fazlur Rehman has announced that his party will not be a part of talks with PTI to evolve consensus on elections date. The announcement was made after an emergency meeting of JUI-F as the government and opposition kicked off talks in Islamabad over the date of elections.
Why Maulana Fazl Stays Away From Talks?
“JUI-F will not be a part of the talks, even in the Senate. We stand by our stance,” Maulana Fazl said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Thursday.
He said JUI-F has taken a position that the matter should be handled by the ECP, which should exercise its authority and powers.
He said, “I do not think that sitting with PTI will resolve the matter,.” He said that the apex court’s decision to hold the polls on May 14 is not enforceable, and the court should correct it themselves, saying that the elections have always been held on the same day in the country throughout its history.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the political party that wins in Punjab province will also come to power at the Centre. He said that the top court says they have nothing to do with the talks but also takes a hard position by staying with their decision about polls on May 14.
