ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said he was ready to face the removal for respecting the Parliament’s decisions but would never undermine the trust it had reposed in him.
The prime minister said it was his duty to respect the Parliament’s decisions. Shehbaz Sharif said, “ Former PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was martyred, Nawaz Sharif and Yusuf Raza Gilani were disqualified. Today the country’s Parliament has given me vote of confidence. If they remove me in response to this vote of confidence, I am ready to go back thousands of times but will not let them down,”.
“The amendment of the Constitution is the right of the Parliament. The court has no authority to rewrite the constitution of the country… If the Parliament (House) raises its voice… the threat of contempt is given,” the PM remarked.
He said the country was faced with utmost challenges just because of the previous government which was formed through “rigged” elections.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he is thankful to the House for reposing confidence on his leadership. Addressing the National Assembly after successfully proving his majority, the Prime Minister said he was “willing to be ousted a thousand times”, but would never “compromise on the trust the parliament has expressed in him”. He claimed Pakistan was prospering before the 2018 polls and blamed the previous government of PTI for economic problems. He claimed, “The entire world is aware how the RTS was compromised in 2018 elections,”.
The prime minister said, “However when we challenged the results of the elections, former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar stopped recounting of votes”. Shehbaz Sharif said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan dissolved two provincial assemblies Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to create issues when talks with the IMF were going on. “The current government is importing Russian oil that will soon arrive in the country,” he said.
Regarding the talks with PTI, the prime minister hoped that it would start today, but he clarified that the agenda of the talks would be transparent elections across the country.
The Prime Minister said, “We do not accept the verdict of three-member [Supreme Court} bench; we accept the decision of four judges.”
