ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday sought complete details of the federal cabinet’s meeting held after the Supreme Court gave its verdict in the polls delay case and the subsequent political situation in the country.
PTI leader Farrukh Habib wrote a letter to the cabinet division in this regard and said that they came to know through the media reports that the federal cabinet rejected the apex court’s verdict regarding elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The PTI Central Secretary Information filed the plea under the Right to Information Act and asked the cabinet division to provide all the details regarding agenda of the meeting, the participants, discussion and the decision taken thereof.
The move followed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with the parliamentary leaders of the coalition partners and said that the Supreme Court did not hear the political parties’ lawyers and rejected the government’s plea to form full court. He also said that they would file another resolution in the National Assembly on the Court verdict. Sharif regretted that he did not witness such situation ever before in his entire political career. The decision of the 4-3 was also ignored, he said, while chairing the meeting.
According to the sources, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked the government to adopt tough stance in the wake of the orders of the apex court for elections in Punjab. The sources said that the coalition partners decided to get their decision against the Supreme Court’s verdict endorsed by the parliament.
the PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif, on the other hand, insisted to file reference against the SC three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar. On April 4, the SC three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial rejected the decision of the Election Commission and fixed May 14 as the date for holding elections in Punjab.
