ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s export of goods and services to neighboring Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 17.02% during the first 8 months of the current financial year (2022-23) as compared to the exports in the same period last year, the State Bank of Pakistan reported on Wednesday.
The overall exports to Afghanistan were recorded at 346.522 million dollars from July-February (2022-23) against exports of 296.109 million dollars during July-February (2021-22), showing growth of 17.02%, SBP data revealed.
On a year-to-year (YoY) basis, the exports to Afghanistan also increased by 60.49% from 38.222 million dollars in February 2022 against the exports of 61.345 million dollars in February 2023.
Exports on MoM basis
Meanwhile, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the data revealed that the exports to Afghanistan also surged 82.58% during February 2023 compared to the exports of 33.598 million dollars in January 2022.
Overall, Pakistan’s exports to other states decreased by 9.65% in the 8 months, from 20.632 billion dollars to 18.639 billion dollars.
On the other side, the imports from Afghanistan into Pakistan during the period under review were recorded at 13.540 million dollars against 119.328 million dollars last year, showing a decline of 88.65% in July-February (2022-23).
On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the import for Afghanistan witnessed also decreased by 98.89% from 13.723 million dollars in February 2022 against the imports of 0.151 million dollars in February 2023.
On a month-on-month basis (MoM), the imports from Afghanistan into Pakistan increased by 11.02% during February 2023, as compared to the imports of 0.136 million dollars during January 2022, according to the data.
The overall imports into Pakistan witnessed a decrease of 21.02% from 47.336 billion dollars to 37.388 billion dollars.
Based on the trade data, the trade of goods and services with neighboring Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 88.35% in surplus during the period as against the same period of the previous year.
The data revealed that the surplus was recorded at 332.982 million dollars against 176.781 million dollars during last year, showing a growth of 88.35%.
