ISLAMABAD: Qibla Ayaz, chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Wednesday, after reviewing the Transgender Persons (Rights of Protection) Rules in detail, termed the provision of ‘self-perceived Identity’ un-Islamic.
Addressing a press conference following a two-day meeting with all stakeholders, the CII chairman said these rules were framed in continuation of the Transgender Act and contained many provisions and clauses incompatible with Shariah.
Issues faced by intersex, transgender persons
The council expressed concerns over the social and legal issues faced by intersex and transgender persons. It stressed ensuring the protection and provision of fundamental human rights of intersex and transgender persons.
Qibla said, that during the meeting, the council examined the amendment bills presented by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, Senator Mohsin Aziz, and Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari and suggested amendments to them.
It is worth mentioning here that apart from CII members and other renowned leaders and religious scholars, representatives of the transgender community, legal and social experts, doctors, civil society organizations, officials of the National Database and Registration Authority and Ministry of Human Rights also attended the moot in a bid to review all aspects of the issues about the intersex and transgender community.
Meanwhile, the council members passed a resolution concerning the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. They hailed the decision by the United Nations to celebrate it on March 15 annually as a commendable initiative.
The CII hoped that continuous, integrated, and comprehensive measures would produce positive results in this regard. The council also expressed hoped that certain elements in the west and other countries were engaged in nefarious agendas to create an atmosphere of fear and hatred toward Islam and Muslims due to severe threats to the world’s peace.
It emphasized that all countries and international civil society organizations should work for peace, tolerance, and improving human relations.
The council expressed its willingness to be part of any struggle against Islamophobia and assured that it would play its best role to create a peaceful and harmonious environment so that the creatures of Allah Almighty could live with contentment and peace.
