Two Killed, 53 Trapped at Collapsed Coalmine in China

BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered a search and rescue for 53 people trapped at a collapsed coal mine in Inner Mongolia, Chinese state media CCTV reported Wednesday.

According to CCTV, two people have been killed and six injured in the collapse that took place earlier in the day on Wednesday in Alxa Left Banner in Inner Mongolia.

Authorities have mobilized 51 trucks, 223 firefighters, and six rescue dogs from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region to the scene.

Efforts to rescue missing people from coalmine

“We must make every possible effort within the available resources to rescue the missing people and treat the wounded,” Xi Jinping, quoted by Reuters.

According to the news agency, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang called for an immediate probe into the cause of the accident.

The collapsed coal mine is located in Alxa League and is owned by Xinjing Coal Mining Company.
