KYIV: A senior Ukrainian official said that the Chinese government did not consult with Kyiv when preparing its peace plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“China did not consult with Ukraine,” the official told reporters on condition of anonymity.
This week, Beijing has promised to publish its proposed “peaceful political solution” to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s top diplomat, said his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi shared “key elements of the Chinese proposed peace plan” during their meeting in Germany earlier this week.
“We are looking forward to receiving the proposed plan because this is not something that you can, you know, make your conclusions on just after hearing,” he added.

But the Ukrainian official on Wednesday warned that no peace plan should cross the “red lines” drawn by Kyiv.
“Our red lines are the principles of the UN charter, including respect for the territorial sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine,” the official said.
The official added that the president (Volodymyr Zelensky) has already clearly said that there will be no bargaining with any Ukrainian territories.

China has sought to keep itself as a neutral party while maintaining close relations with strategic ally Russia.
Russia said on Wednesday that Beijing had presented its views on approaches to a “political solution” in Ukraine following Wang Yi’s visit to Moscow.
Ukraine has published its own 10-point peace plan demanding the total withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukrainian territory and an international tribunal to prosecute Russia for its aggression.
