The UNSC resolution, approved unanimously, does not change the sanctions already in place — it simply sets Nov. 15 as the new end date for the steps. The panel of experts assigned with managing the sanctions oversee its mandate extended until 15th December.

The UN Council reaffirmed the weapons embargo, which has targeted the Houthis militia for the last year. That step has no expiration date while the UNSC members also discussed the recent situation in Yemen on Wednesday.

At the last meeting, the UN special diplomat for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said he called for an intensification of diplomatic efforts to organize a new truce in the 8-year war in Yemen as the peace deal expired on October 2.
