ISLAMABAD: NATO asked Moscow to comply with the New START nuclear agreement to preserve global stability. In a statement issued by the military alliance said, it noted “with concern that Moscow has failed to fulfill with legally-binding obligations” under the New START agreement.

Moscow and NATO
The New START Nuclear Treaty inked in 2010 and extended in 2021 for another five-year. The treaty aims to reduce and control strategic nuclear forces used by Russia and the US.
NATO said that Moscow’s denial to hold a meeting of the treaty’s implementation committee and to facilitate American inspection since August “prevents the US from exercising important rights under the agreement.
NATO added that effective weapons control contributes to world stability and security and urged Moscow to fulfill its obligations by permitting checks and participating in the work of the implementation committee.
The NATO statement further said that the New START Treaty remains in the interest of all countries, including NATO allies.
