ISLAMABAD: Pakistan says more than 3,500 people have been killed or injured in terrorist attacks planned and carried out from Afghan territory in 2026, rejecting allegations by Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities that Pakistani military strikes at terrorists’ hideouts have caused civilian casualties.

In a statement on Monday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) categorically rejected as baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding civilian casualties resulting from its counter-terrorism operations in Afghanistan.

The FO said attempts to spread disinformation and promote misleading narratives would neither conceal the threat posed by terrorist networks operating from Afghan territory nor absolve the Afghan Taliban regime of its responsibility to prevent Afghan soil from being used to plan and launch attacks against Pakistan.

“These attacks have resulted in more than 3,500 casualties in 2026 alone,” the Foreign Office said. Islamabad also accused the Taliban authorities of allowing several terrorist organisations, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and their affiliates, to operate from Afghan territory.

The FO said that thousands of Pakistani civilians had lost their lives in terrorist attacks planned, financed, supported and carried out from Afghan soil, accusing the Taliban regime of failing to prevent such activities.

Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Afghan authorities to take verifiable action against militant groups using Afghan territory to carry out attacks inside Pakistan.

The Foreign Office urged the international community to hold the Taliban regime accountable for its failure to fulfil its obligations under relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and other international commitments aimed at preventing Afghan territory from being used as a base for terrorism.
