RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first against Pakistan in the opening match of the ODI Tri-Series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The match, scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm Pakistan Standard Time, marks the start of the three-nation tournament featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England, running from October 18 to 31.
Pakistan, captained by Shaheen Shah Afridi, will bat first as the hosts look to make a positive start to their ODI campaign.
Sri Lanka, led by Kusal Mendis, will seek to take advantage of bowling first and restrict Pakistan to a manageable total.
Pakistan Enter ODI Series After T20I Victory
The two teams recently contested a three-match T20I series at the same venue, which Pakistan won 2-1.
Pakistan secured victories in the opening two matches before Sri Lanka responded with an eight-wicket win in the final encounter on October 13.
Mendis played a decisive role in that victory, scoring an unbeaten 87 from 48 deliveries.
Pakistan’s ODI squad features experienced players including Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf, who return to the 50-over format after missing the T20I series.
The tournament follows a double round-robin format, with each team playing the other twice before the top two sides advance to the final.
Rawalpindi will host the opening three matches, while the remaining fixtures, including the October 31 final, will take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Pakistan will face England in their next match on October 20.
