ISLAMABAD: Two policemen were martyred when Indian-backed terrorists fired at a polio vaccination team in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province.
On 22 September 2026, Fitna Al Hindustan terrorists targeted police personnel providing security to a polio vaccination team in Jamalabad, Nushki area of the province, security sources said on Tuesday.
Fitna-al-Hindustan is an official term designated by the Pakistani government to refer collectively to all Indian backed terrorist groups operating in Balochistan province.
The policemen martyred by the terrorists were identified as Muhammad Yasir and Abdul Rauf.
The terrorists took the policemen’s official weapons and fled, after which police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Blatant terrorism
Security sources said targeting police escorting a polio vaccination team is blatant terrorism, an attack on public security, healthcare, and the protection of children.
The killing of two police officers in Nushki shows the terrorists’ complete disregard for human life and essential public services. Those protecting polio workers were targeted simply for performing their duty to safeguard a life-saving campaign.
Attacking polio security threatens not only police personnel but also vaccinators, children, and families who depend on safe access to essential healthcare.
Stealing official weapons further exposes the criminal and terrorist nature of the attack, security sources said. They said such violence creates fear, disrupts essential services, and harms the very communities terrorists claim to represent.
The people of Balochistan are the real victims when terrorists attack those delivering healthcare and protecting public welfare.
The state will continue to protect frontline personnel and ensure essential services reach the people despite attempts by terrorists to spread fear and disruption.
Interior Minister condemns the incident
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi “strongly” condemned the incident, expressing grief over the martyrdom of the two cops.
He offered his condolences to the bereaved families, adding: “The attack on the team working to secure the future of our children is a heinous and unforgivable act.”
He vowed exemplary punishment for those who targeted the polio team.

Chief Minister Balochistan seeks report
Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti sought a report on the incident from the provincial Home Department. He paid tribute to the martyred personnel, saying that they had sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
The chief minister said that police investigation was underway to determine the motives behind the incident and identify the elements involved.
“The anti-polio campaign is a national effort to protect children from a dangerous disease, and the safety of the teams associated with this campaign is of utmost importance,” he said.

Pakistan is one of only two countries in the world, alongside Afghanistan, where polio remains endemic.

A week-long vaccination campaign began in Balochistan on Monday, targeting 2.3 million children under the age of five as part of efforts to eradicate the virus from the province.
The campaign follows recent environmental surveillance that detected two positive samples in Balochistan, indicating the continued presence of the virus in the region.
