WASHINGTON, US: YouTube star Ms Rachel has pledged $1 million for Palestinian relief, matching rapper Macklemore’s donation and calling on other wealthy celebrities to contribute to organisations supporting Palestinians.

Rachel Accurso, known for her popular children’s content, announced that her donation would go to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF).

Accurso said in an Instagram post that she was matching Macklemore’s $1 million contribution and urged wealthy public figures to make similar donations. She said she believed people with large platforms had a responsibility to support children and human rights.

Accurso also referred to the number of Palestinian children reported killed during the Gaza war, saying more children continued to die. Her comments were framed as an appeal for greater humanitarian support and public advocacy.

The announcement came shortly after Macklemore said he would donate his entire net earnings from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour to six organisations supporting Palestinians. The organisations include the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, HEAL Palestine, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians, UNRWA USA National Committee and the American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA).

Macklemore was dropped as an opening act on Sheeran’s tour following his public statements supporting Palestinians and calls for a “Free Palestine”. He later said his criticism was directed at Israeli policies and the situation in Gaza rather than Jewish people, while stressing that his message was one of peace, dignity and equality.

The dispute has since widened beyond Macklemore, with the remaining supporting acts on Sheeran’s tour withdrawing from scheduled appearances in solidarity with him.

Ed Sheeran and businessman Robert Kraft have also pledged $2 million each toward humanitarian assistance in the region, although the specific recipient organisations have not been publicly identified, according to reports.

Ms Rachel has previously used her large online platform to discuss the humanitarian situation affecting children in Gaza. Her latest pledge adds another high-profile contribution to the fundraising activity surrounding the controversy over Macklemore’s removal from Sheeran’s tour.
