DUBAI, UAE: Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali has issued a strong warning to arch-rivals India, insisting that her side’s newfound mental fortitude will be the game-changer when the two teams lock horns in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 on Saturday.
Fresh from a Player of the Match performance in Pakistan’s emphatic victory over Thailand, Muneeba made it clear that the Green Shirts are no longer a side that crumbles under pressure. Instead, she believes the team has cultivated a belief system that can withstand even the most intense challenges, including the high-voltage atmosphere of an India-Pakistan clash.
“Previously, when we lost wickets, we weren’t able to come back into the match. Today, that was a little better. Even after the wickets fell, the team still kept its composure and believed that we could get a total that would be defendable on this wicket,” Muneeba said during the post-match press conference at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Recovery from early jitters sets tone for campaign
Pakistan’s opening match against Thailand on Tuesday was far from a smooth sail. The batting unit stumbled early, losing three wickets inside the powerplay with just 23 runs on the board. Many feared a repeat of the batting collapses that had plagued the side in recent T20I series, including a disappointing run against Sri Lanka.
But this time, the response was different.
Muneeba anchored the innings with a composed 54 off 52 balls, stitching together a crucial partnership that steadied the ship. The team eventually posted 119-9, a total that proved more than sufficient as Pakistan’s bowlers stepped up to restrict Thailand to just 84-8, sealing a commanding 35-run victory.
“When wickets kept falling in the powerplay, we knew that if we got a good partnership and kept scoring runs, it would put the bowlers under pressure and give us opportunities to score,” Muneeba explained. “That was my strategy.”
The left-handed batter was also refreshingly honest about the team’s recent struggles, acknowledging that the batting unit had failed to fire in previous assignments.
“In the last few T20 series we played before Sri Lanka, our batting unit did not click as such and we had our struggles,” she admitted.
“We have been working on those issues in camps to make sure we don’t repeat the same mistakes and bring in some different options in our batting. Today, the difference was that even when we lost wickets, the team kept believing and tried to set a total that would be defendable against the opposition on this pitch.”
Bowlers deliver clinical performance
If the batting showed resilience, the bowling attack showcased precision and control. Left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu was the pick of the bowlers, conceding just six runs from her four overs, an economy rate that suffocated Thailand’s chase.
“I knew there was bounce and turn in the pitch, and that it was keeping low. I just had to bowl in the right areas and let the pitch do the rest,” Nashra said after the match.
Pacer Tuba Hassan also made her presence felt, claiming two wickets for 17 runs in her four-over spell. She stressed that the team’s approach against Thailand was deliberately designed to prepare for the bigger challenges ahead.
“My plan was simple: bowl wicket-to-wicket and vary the pace as much as possible because we also need to prepare for the next match,” Tuba said.
“These are exactly the things we need to learn from so that we can make fewer mistakes in the next matches and play better.”
