KABUL, Afghanistan: The Taliban regime’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) has directed Afghanistan’s district authorities to collect and urgently submit information on Afghan nationals allegedly involved in anti-Taliban activities while residing in Pakistan or Iran, according to an official document.
The directive, addressed to district administrations, instructs officials to identify individuals whose families remain in Afghanistan while they themselves are based in Pakistan or Iran and are allegedly involved in activities against the Taliban regime. It orders local authorities to gather the relevant information and share it with the intelligence agency without delay.
“Provide information regarding those individuals from (Provinces) whose families are in Afghanistan while they themselves are based in Pakistan or Iran and are involved in activities against the Islamic Emirate. Kindly collect the relevant information in this regard and share it with us immediately,” the Taliban regime letter read.
According to analysts, the Taliban regime’s move to collect information on Afghan nationals associated with anti-Taliban armed resistance groups appears aimed at suppressing dissent as the resistance movement against the regime continues to evolve.
Meanwhile, armed resistance against the Taliban regime has intensified across Afghanistan as anti-Taliban groups launched a series of attacks on Taliban regime forces in Badakhshan and several other provinces in recent days.
The latest clashes in Zebak district marked one of the most serious episodes of armed resistance in Badakhshan since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021.
Last week, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) said it launched a rocket attack on a Taliban military convoy travelling from Kabul to Badakhshan, killing seven Taliban regime personnel and seriously wounding six others.
According to the group, the attack took place in Doshi district of Baghlan province after its fighters tracked the convoy from Kabul to the Northern Salang area. The convoy was transporting Taliban reinforcements and military equipment to Badakhshan, the AFF said on its official X account.

The National Resistance Front (NRF) of Afghanistan on Tuesday claimed its fighters carried out two separate operations against Taliban regime positions in the western province of Herat and the north-eastern province of Badakhshan, saying several Taliban fighters were killed or wounded.
In a statement, the NRF said its fighters launched an organised operation against a Taliban regime checkpoint near Faris district in Herat province. The resistance group claimed one Taliban regime member was killed and three others wounded during the attack.
According to the NRF, its fighters also seized four weapons from the Taliban during the operation before withdrawing without suffering casualties. The group said no civilians were harmed.

On Saturday, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) said it ambushed a group of foreign militants supporting the Taliban regime in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, killing at least two and wounding three others.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the AFF said the attack took place on Friday evening along the road to Zebak district in Badakhshan.
The resistance group said those targeted were foreign militants supporting the Taliban regime who were travelling to join operations against AFF fighters in Zebak. The group claimed the men did not speak the local language but did not identify their nationalities.

Meanwhile, former Afghan army general Sami Sadat has announced the start of military operations by the Afghanistan United Front, arguing that armed resistance, political mobilisation and public pressure are weakening the group’s control over the country.
Appearing in an Afghan National Army uniform and holding the former republic’s tricolour flag, Sadat said the front had authorised operations against Taliban fighters, bases and senior leaders from 5am Kabul time.
“The first phase of military operations targeting Taliban members, bases and leadership has begun; subsequent phases will follow,” he said in a video message.
Sadat described the campaign as a “war of liberation”, claiming that negotiations with the Taliban had failed and that the international community had ignored appeals from Afghan civil society for almost five years.
Meanwhile, gunmen launched an attack on the residence of the Taliban regime’s army chief, Fasihuddin Fitrat, in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, according to local sources.
The attack took place in the village of Istrap in Wurduj district last week, where Fitrat’s family home is located. It remains unclear whether the Taliban’s chief of army staff was present at the residence when the assault occurred.
Local sources said the attackers opened fire from a nearby mountainside overlooking the property, using both light and heavy weapons, including PK machine guns.
Security personnel guarding the residence returned fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire. The assailants are said to have fled the area after the clash. No casualties or significant property damage have been reported, and no armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident comes as Badakhshan has witnessed an increase in armed activity involving Taliban forces and anti-Taliban groups.
