MOSCOW: A Ukrainian drone strike killed two people in Russia’s southwestern Saratov region on Sunday, regional authorities said, in one of the latest long-range attacks as Kyiv continues to target sites deep inside Russian territory.
Saratov Governor Roman Busargin said the victims were killed during what he described as an “enemy drone attack” but did not provide further details about their identities or the exact location of the strike.
The Saratov region lies about 750 kilometres from the Ukrainian border and has increasingly become a target of Ukrainian drone operations because of its strategic military and energy infrastructure.
There was no immediate comment from Ukrainian officials on the reported attack.
In recent months, Ukraine has stepped up long-range drone strikes against Russian oil refineries, air bases and other facilities that it says support Moscow’s military operations. Russia, meanwhile, has continued missile and drone attacks across Ukrainian cities as the conflict enters its fifth year.

Saratov has previously been targeted by Ukrainian drones, with attacks reported on oil infrastructure and military-related facilities in the region.
The latest strike comes amid a broader escalation in aerial warfare, with both sides relying heavily on drones to hit targets far beyond the front lines.
Russia and Ukraine routinely accuse each other of targeting civilian areas, while both maintain that their military operations are directed at strategic objectives linked to the war.
The full extent of the damage from Sunday’s attack was not immediately clear, and independent verification of the incident was not available.
