LAHORE: Pakistan hockey has appointed Abu Bakar as its new captain, hoping fresh leadership can revive the team’s fortunes after a disastrous winless FIH Pro League campaign.
the decision, approved by PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, follows a recommendation from the Professional Development Committee featuring hockey legends Islahuddin Siddiqui and Hassan Sardar.
The appointment comes at a critical juncture as Pakistan prepares for the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup, co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands from August 14 to 30.

The leadership change follows a disastrous Pro League campaign in which Pakistan lost all 16 matches, finishing rock bottom with a goal difference of -57.
