ROME: The next round of US-mediated talks between Israel and Lebanon will take place in Rome from August 4 to 6, as both sides continue efforts to advance a framework aimed at easing tensions and addressing outstanding issues along their border.
The US State Department confirmed the schedule, saying technical teams from Israel and Lebanon will meet to discuss steps towards the implementation of an existing framework agreement.
According to AFP, a US official on the condition of anonymity said the discussions would focus on expanding the ongoing “pilot zone” process, resolving remaining border disputes and laying the groundwork for a broader peace and security arrangement.
The talks come as Israel prepares to withdraw from two designated “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon, a move seen as part of efforts to build confidence between the two sides.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had earlier announced that the next phase of negotiations would be held in Rome under US mediation.
The meetings are expected to concentrate on technical and security-related matters, with officials hoping to make progress towards a comprehensive agreement aimed at ensuring stability along the Israel-Lebanon border.
The latest talks are part of wider diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region and establish mechanisms for long-term security and cooperation between the two countries.
